You have to attend college and then go to Med School.

* You should plan on graduating from high school... if you can't manage to get your stuff together to do that, then you might be in trouble. You need a bachelor's degree (usually 4 years at a college/university), preferably from the top university you can afford to attend. While at college, you need to fulfill certain pre-medical requirements (calculus, bio, chemisty, organic chem, physics, the science labs, etc.). You apply to medical school (if you want to go straight from college, you apply to med school the summer before your last year of college). Medical school is 4 years. After that, you apply for residency training in the area of medicine you want to practice. Residency training is anywhere from 3 years (for pediatrics, general medicine, etc) to 7+ years for surgical specialties.

It's a long road. You should talk to a school counselor or advisor. Unless you're a child prodigy, you won't be a PEDIATRICIAN at the age of 23.

Summary: 4 years of high school + 4 years of college + 4 years of medical school + 3 to 7+ years of training.
