no pompeii was founded many years before that but after the eruption of mount vesuvius, pompeii was rediscovered in 1599.
Pompeii was a desirable place to live for two main reasons. Firstly, the soil was very fertile, due to Mount Vesuvius, which was very close. The people of Pompeii didn't know that Vesuvius was a volcano, so were unaware that it was the cause for the fertile land. Secondly and lastly, the location of Pompeii was close to the Bay of Naples, therefore, it provided the necessary transportation for traders. Pompeii was a very busy town with people bustling about, and it can be said that there were many amenities of life.
More than half of the Pompeii population suffered, if not from suffocating under the stones and ash, most people who stood on the beach awaiting rescue, died from the poisinous gases spewed from Vesuvius.
Pompeii is considered a dangerous place to live because on August 24, 79 AD Mt. Vesuvius erupted and covered and preserved Pompeii with volcanic ash. Many Romans died, and the plaster casts of how their bodies looked when they died can still be seen today today. Back then, the Romans did not know Mt. Vesuvius was a volcano. Today, Vesuvius is still active, therefore, it could be still considered dangerous.
As of the year 2016 it has been 1,937 years since Mount Vesuvius destroyed Pompeii in the year 79.
