There was only one town of Pompeii. However, Pompeii was in an area of Italy called Campania, and several other towns were buried in the eruption. Pompeii is the most famous because of all the well preserved ruins and bodies.

There are no volcanoes in Pompeii. The ruins of Pompeii are near Mt. Vesuvius, but Vesuvius is not in Pompeii itself.
