How many people live on the streets in America?

This is a hard number to give exactly since the census has a hard time counting homeless. They don't have an address and move around. It is known that over 200,000 children from 12-19 are on the streets of the country some estimates have it as high as a million. In New York alone there are 37,000 families in shelters. This means about 16,000 are children in shelters with their family and not getting regular schooling, meals, and health issues addressed.
