It depends on if you are going to spend time with them. One bird will get lonely if you do not spend time with it. Two birds will keep each other company for a short while. Three birds are like a flock, but don't have two males and one female otherwise they'd fight over her. Anymore and you'll need to have a big cage, and they'd be more like an aquarium just for looking at, not pets. Just remember, if you're getting 2-4 birds, bring them at the same time, and have separate eating plates, or they'll fight.
