I don't believe any official record has been kept of how many Mormon Missionaries have died while serving, but the number is easily in the several hundreds, if not more.
From 1995 to 2006, there were at least 25 missionaries who died during their missionary service.
Most of the people that died on the "Mormon Trail" as they call it now days just left late and winter started to come and many died of frostbite/Hypothermia.
many pioneers traveled west to bufflalo
Vast amounts of territory became open and available to settlement, and many of the pioneers were children of pioneers themselves.
pioneers traveled through the frontier for many different reasons but the main reason is that they were running out of space and more people were moving in
There were 87 people not including the teamsters or Indians that travelled with them.
Many of the northern and more western tribes attempted this, the Nez Perce (and Chief Joseph) are probably the most infamous for it however.
pioneers of what
Apparently nobody knows !
No one really knows for sure. It is said 6,000+ LDS pioneers died while crossing, as for other trails many can only guess because most of the graves were not marked with cross or tombstone

Yes many pioneers traveled in groups for safety.
My second cousin died attempting to climb Mt Tasman in 1973.
Many pioneers have used this approach to the mountain passes.
There are two, Pioneer 10 and Pioneer 11.
Each climbing season finds many climbers attempting to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The climbers employ many sherpas, so providing a living for the local people.
