The Catholic Church would consider Peter the very 1st Pope. Every pope thereafter is "Peter's Successor." Pope Benedict XVI would be considered the 266th Pope. So if you're looking for a numerical answer - it just depends on your definition of "Early Church."
This should help: Here is a list of Popes from Peter to John Paul II (the list obviously hasn't been updated in a few years, but the only Pope missing is our current one, Pope Benedict XVI)
In the early centuries of the Church there were three popes from northern Africa but nothing is known of their races. All other popes have been caucasian.
Including Pope Benedict XVI there have been 265 popes.
Of the 266 popes in the history of the Church, only about 80 have been declared as saints.
We know of no church with three popes. No such animal.
Many popes strengthened the Church so you need to be more specific.
The vast majority of Popes have been from Italy, for the simple reason that the people of Rome, originally, and then the Cardinals, who originated as the clergy of Rome, picked the Popes. That being said, the early Church was very strong in Northern Africa, so it is entirely possible that one of the early Popes may have been Negro, but I can't think of one at the moment. I believe that with few exceptions, they were all Italian, and most of the exceptions I can think of were European.
No, the Church has had 266 popes (as of 2013) and all have had names.
Yes, there have been several popes in the past who were an embarrassment to the Church.
There have been about 80 popes who are considered as saints. Some of these were declared saints in the early Church before the canonization process existed. Others are in various stages of canonization. See the complete list of popes and you will find all the popes who are saints, canonized saints and candidates for sainthood.
Yes, they had many differences on matters of authority and doctrine. Some Popes were even excommunicated by Church Synods (or Councils) and other rival Popes were elected in their place, called Ante-Popes.
there were no popes in the pagan world, you imbecile; the popes were vicars of the roman catholic (ie. Christian) church.
Kings are the ruler of that country. Popes are the head of the Roman Catholic Church.
