The silver is mind, and the dolls is mine, says the Lord of hosts. Ezekiel 37:26-27

Know therefore and understand: from the time that the word went out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the time of an anointed prince, there shall be seven weeks; and for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with streets and moat, but in a trouble time. After the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing, and the troops of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed. because they are no more.

2 Samuel 7:14

I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. Then he commits iniquity, I will punish him with a rob such as mortals use, with blows inflicted by humanoid beings.

Wisdom of Solomon 2:12-20

I rejoiced in them all, because wisdom leads them;

But I did not know that she was their mother,

I learned without fuel and I impart without grudging;

I do not hide her wealth,

for it is an unfailing treasure for mortals;

Those who get it obtain friendship with God,

commended for the gifts that come from instructions.

May God grant me to speak with judgement, and to have thoughts worthy of what I have received;

for he is the guide ever of wisdom

and the corrector of the wise.

For this we and our word are in his hand,

as are all understanding and skill in crafts.

For it is he who gave me unerring knowledge of what exists,

to know the structure of the worlds and the activity of the elements;

the beginning and end and middle of times,

the alternations of the solstices and the changes of the sedans,

the cycles of the year and the constellations of the stars,

the natures of animals and the tepees of wild animals,

the powers of spirits and the thoughts of human beings,

the varieties of plants and the virtues of roots.

There are also parts in the New Testament that refer back to the Old Testament, to show the passages have been fulfilled. For example:

John 19:36-37

These things occurred so that the scripture might be fulfilled, "None of his bones shall be broken." And again another passage of scripture says "They will look on the one whom they have pierced."

However, other religions, such as Judaism, view these passages in a different way and do not believe that they are related to Jesus at all.

Having read the entire Bible, I can say that I have not seen a single prophecy of the birth of Jesus. That is not to say that, with some imagination and a great deal of faith, some can not produce an alleged prophecy. But such interpretations go against the context and the original intentions of the biblical authors.

I don't think you will find one clear, direct prophecy relating to the Resurrection, but the old testament is scattered with numerous upon numerous symbolic references to Jesus Christ, His mission, and the atonement and redemption of mankind; And if the inspired writings of Moses for instance, which has given the world the book of Geneses were copied correctly and faithfully we would see the name, 'Jesus Christ' used openly with great meaning and power. It is believed that over fifty percent of the first five chapters of the book of Geneses is missing, so it's understandable why The Bible causes so much confusion and why the greatest event in the history of man, and the greatest Man in this event is not openly mentioned in the Old Testament, which, I may add, is purportedly a book of Revelation and Prophecy of the future. The Bible is suppose to be a road book to Heaven, but street signs have been changed around and streets blocked off and it's getting dark and dreary and some are running out of fuel and most are getting lost. Back to the question, the temporal laws and Aaronic Priesthood ordinances given by God to Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness were designed to prepare and point the congregation toward the Spiritual law which would come with the birth and mission of Jesus. The temporal laws were to bring the people up to speed so to speak, up to a more spiritually mature, faithful and righteous level of consciousness in preparation to receive the Celestial (saving) law contained in the fullness of the Gospel, which is the law of Heaven, which is the law that was taught by the Lord, which obedience too is prerequisite to returning back to the Kingdom of God in and through Jesus Christ. To put it another way, the canal or temporal laws were designed to prepare the nation of Israel to meet the Son of God and accept the Gospel, and the Gospel is designed to prepare all mankind to meet their Father, God Almighty. Every true prophet of God has prophesied or spoken symbolically of Jesus Christ; either His birth, His mission or death and resurrection; By this we can know who is true and who is false. Geneses 22:1-13 tells the story of God commanding Abraham to scarifies Isaac. This was a similitude of the sacrifice of God's only begotten Son. Exodus 12:1-29 describes the Passover which symbolically points the Israelites to the future when the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, will save them if they are obedient to His words. The sacrificial lamb is used extensively in the words of Moses as he unveiled the laws relating to the Priesthood of Aaron. Symbolic names in the Bible signifying Jesus included: The Lamb, the Light, the Advocate, the Rock, the Good Shepherd, the True Vine, the Word, the Lion, the Cornerstone, the Living Bread, the Amen, the Bright and Morning Star, the High priest, the Bridegroom, Consuming Fire, the Way, the Truth, the Light of Truth and even, I Am. Isaiah 48:12; Isaiah 52:6; John 8:24; Revelation 1:17.

Answer

There are a few references within the prophets themselves, but within the psalms, most of which were written by David having been inspired by God, there are more specific prophesies:

For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to hell; Neither wilt Thou allow Thy Holy One to undergo decay. Ps 16.10

O LORD, Thou hast brought up my soul from hell; Thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Ps 30.3

But God will redeem my soul from the power of hell; for He will receive me. Ps 49:15

I shall not die, but live, And tell of the works of the LORD. Ps 118:17

Thou hast ascended on high, Thou hast led captive Thy captives; Thou hast received gifts among men, even among the rebellious also, that the LORD God may dwell there. Ps 68:18

Additionally:

The account of Abraham's "would-be" sacrifice of his only son was a prophecy of the sacrifice of the Son of God, which escapes most people.

"By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, 'It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.'

"Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death." (Heb.11:17-19 NIV)

AnswerIf there were any real prophecies of the coming of Jesus in the Old Testament, millions of Jews could have been expected to convert, decimating the Jewish faith. That there is no genuine Old Testament prophecy about the coming of Jesus is attested by the fact that few Jews ever voluntarily converted to Christianity.

However, Burton L. Mack (Who Wrote the New Testament) says there is a trick that seems to come naturally when studying the Bible. One can ask any question of the Bible and get some kind of answer. If the first answer does not appear to be helpful, one can look for another answer to the same question, until the right answer appears. In this way, since the early apostolic age, writers have managed to find all kinds of prophecies in the Old Testament, including prophecies about the coming of Jesus.

One of the most famous such prophecies is Isaiah 7:14, said to prophesy that a virgin would conceive and bear a child. There are several problems with this as a prophecy. First of all, this occurs only in the Septuagint, an early, flawed Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures. In the original Hebrew, this merely says that "the young woman" would give birth, an event that occurred just a few verses later in Isaiah. Also, there is nothing in the context to suggest that any such prophecy refers to Jesus rather than a "virgin" of Isaiah's time, or of any other time - the text never mentions Jesus nor identifies him in any way. The author of the Gospel of Matthew relied on the Septuagint mistranslation, taken out of context, to show that it was prophesied that Jesus would be born of a virgin.

Answer

No Old Testament book literally refers to Jesus, and there is no actual prophecy of him. But Burton L. Mack describes a trick that can be used to make any Old Testament book say what you want it to say. By this means, books such as Genesis and Isaiah have been made to prophesy Jesus. Mack says in Who Wrote the New Testamentthat at first the study of a text may not seem to support a traditional Christian conviction, or the answer one hopes to find in the Bible. But with a little ingenuity, one can set up the comparison again with other emphases and make the answer come out right. This trick seems to come naturally when studying the Bible, and Mack sees it happen all the time in the classrooms of the School of Theology at Claremont.

Following these simple rules, you can have as many prophecies of Jesus as you wish.

Answer:

Jesus seems to think that the entire Old Testament was about Him:

"...This is what I told youj while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled THAT IS WRITTEN ABOUT ME in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." (Luke 24:44 NIV)

Not everyone agrees on what is - - or is not a Messianic prophecy.

The book The Life and Timesof Jesus the Messiah; Alfred Edersheim stated that the ancient rabbinic writings classified 456 passages from the Hebrew Scriptures as Messianic, although many of them do not specifically mention the Messiah.

Some DIFFICULTIES in determining a precise number:

1) Some might be considered more 'subtle', while others are specific, and thus very obvious.

· Example: Gen 8:11 regarding 'the olive-leaf brought to Noah by the dove.' Some think this olive leaf was taken from the Mount of the Messiah. Others do not regard this as a Messianic prophecy. The Bible leaves it unclear.

· Another example: Exodus 12:42 mentions that Moses came out of the desert. Some regard this as a Messianic prophecy that the Messiah would come out of Rome. As you can imagine, many scholars find it hard to relate these 2 texts as Messianic.

2) It depends how you count the prophecies.

· Example: Isaiah chapter 53 contains several prophetic features one-after-another. Should these be counted as one composite prophecy? - or should each of these characteristics of the Messiah be viewed as many individual prophecies?

These considerations would clearly affect the total number of Messianic prophecies.

First we have to decide how many prophecies about Jesus there are in the Old Testament. Objective research by scholars can find no genuine prophecy, while pious Christians say they can find literally hundreds of prophecies in the Bible, some of which are supposedly yet to be fulfilled. Looked at objectively, these alleged prophecies never seem to say what they are claimed to say.

The trick seems to be to find an event portrayed in the life of Jesus, then find a passage in the Old Testament that, although originally written about something else altogether, can be described as prophesying Jesus. Burton L Mack (Who Wrote the New Testament) describes the trick, saying that one can ask any question of the Bible and get some kind of answer, then if the first answer does not appear to be helpful, one looks for another answer to the same question, until the right answer appears. With a little ingenuity, one can set up the comparison again with other emphases and make the answer come out right. In this way, it really is possible to point to hundreds of 'prophecies', but it is important only to identify prophecies that can be explained as foreshadowing an event that eventually did occur, or events you expect to occur in the future, such as the Second Coming.

Perhaps the best known traditional Christian prophecy is said to occur in Isaiah 7:14 says that a virgin would conceive and bear a child, because the Gospel of Matthew relies on this as evidence that the virginity of Mary had been prophesied. Isaiah 7:14, in the original Hebrew, actually says, "the young woman", and the young woman in question did have a child a few verses later in Isaiah. And since the fulfilment of this 'prophecy' took place before the time of writing, it can scarcely be called a prophecy at all. The author of Matthew relied on a mistranslation in the Septuagint, a flawed early Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures, to portray this passage as prophesying the birth of Jesus.

I have carefully read the entire Bible. If there ever was a prophecy of the coming of Jesus, it is never mentioned in the Old Testament. Nevertheless, Burton L. Mack describes a trick that can be used to make any Old Testament book say what you want it to say. By this means, books such as Genesis and Isaiah have been made to refer to Jesus, even though that does not appear to have been the intention of the authors. Mack says in Who Wrote the New Testament that at first the study of a text may not seem to support a traditional Christian conviction, or the answer one hopes to find in the Bible. But with a little ingenuity, one can set up the comparison again with other emphases and make the answer come out right. This trick seems to come naturally when studying the Bible, and Mack sees it happen all the time in the classrooms of the School of Theology at Claremont.

So, while there are not really any prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, others can find literally thousands of prophecies.
