This is really hard to count, since God has been sending us prophets way before written history (way before the days of Adam and Eve), and will continue to do so in the far future.

We make no difference between one and another of them, and we submit to Allah (in Islam)" [The Qur'an 2:136] # The first Prophet was Adam, father of mankind, Alayhis-Salam (Peace be upon him). # Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam 'Alayhis-Salatu was-Salamu (Peace be upon him) is the Seal (the last) of the prophets. There is a difference between a rasool and a nabee. A rasool will bring forth a new sharia. They are the greatest messengers. But it is asked about Rasools. So in the Hadith it is said that "There were 124 000 messengers (in another hadith it is 224 000) and 313 of them were rasools". For now the only reference that I can give you is "Riyazussaliheen" by Imam Nawawi. Why do Christians see Jesus as the fulfillment of all God's promises?
God also promises us many things like comfort, and that He will always provide for us. Jesus offers us these things and more when we decide to turn to Him, and live for Him. God promised that a Savior would be sent, not only to preach the word of God but to die for man's sins, so that they would have the opportunity to return to God. If they obeyed the word of God as preached by Christ, His atonement would not have been in vain. Also, because God sent Prophets to the Jewish people for every generation, until the arrival of Jesus Christ the Messiah. Once the Messiah came, God did not send any more Prophets, as they were only 'forerunners' who prepared the way and predicted the coming of the Messiah. When Jesus came to Earth, there was no longer a need for any prophets, as the Law and the Prophets had been fulfilled by His Son (Matthew 5:17).
