Experts say that if done properly, canned green beans can be stored for up to five years if kept in a cool, dry location. Frozen green beans on the other hand, should be used within a year.

Home made beans keep quite well for a few day at room temperature, however, it is better to refrigerate when not using them, even better to freeze them, they freeze wonderfully well for about 6 months.
Possibly a fungus. It may come off if you clean them under cold water with a green plastic scrubbie. -Also, when you bring green beans home from the store, re-pack them in brown paper bags , DO NOT leave them sealed in a polyethylene bag.
