3-4 quarts. One of the nice features of the Echo is that it has a Transmission Fluid filter. This means you may never need to change the transmission fluid (it is not listed at all in the owner's manual scheduled maintenance). If you feel that it really does need it because you have not driven under normal conditions, you can find details on how to do it, here: http://groups.msn.com/Sorensonbrian/atfchange.msnw

1. Dry fill (the automatic transaxle is bone dry): 6.85 liters (7.24 US qts, 6.03 lmp.qts) using ATF Type T-IV 2. Drain and refill: 2.9 liters (3.1 US qts, 2.6 lmp.qts), again using ATF Type T-IV Typically, you'd want to consider changing the transmission filter (and replacing the transmission oil) at 100,000 miles, as the transmission oil and filter will have some metal shavings that need to be removed, and the oil will be a very dark red. The only time I'd consider changing it before 100,000 miles is unless you've hauled a trailer, or unless your driving habits are harsh. It's not difficult to change the transmission fluid, nor is it expensive to DIY (most likely about $40 max to DIY), but it is sometimes a messy job.
