Are you asking how many freeze plugs are in a small block 400? If you are it varys, could be, 8 could be 10 depending on which casting you have. I hope this answers youre question.
Yes.
On the sides of the block, about center, just above the pan rail, there are plugs. One per side. 9/16ths size head. Pull these out, and the block will drain.

The small plugs, on both sides of the engine block, at the rear edge of the motor mounts. A pita to drain. You have to remove the motor mounts.
There are two types of plugs, for small blocks. Autolite 76, the 13/16ths, or big plug. This was used, pretty much, pre 74. 74, and newer, have a taper fit. An Autolite, 26, or a cross reference, will do. The newer platinum style plugs seem to work well.
There are 8 freeze plugs in all small and big block Chevy engines up to the year 2000
Everything is different in that motor.
When the center exhaust valves are side by side (siamese), it's a small block (EIIEEIIE). Big blocks are symmetrical (EIEIEIEI).
