hector berlioz is over 100 yrs old these days
You can't put a definite number on it. But Hector Berlioz was definitely at least interested in opium, if not an actual user. See 'Symphonie Fantastique'.
He used the 13th century hym named the "Dies Irae" (day of wrath). This is a medevil latin poem sung in plainchant, characterised by its heavy accents and the part of the melody in which descending thirds are used. Many composers including Berlioz used this as a theme in their symphonies.

The first saxophone was a bass or contra-bass instrument made in 1841 to take the place of other bass instruments, and it was used on many pieces not written especially for sax. The first piece to feature the saxophone was an 1844 version of Hector Berlioz' "Chant Sacre" which, according to the Jaques Barzun history of Berlioz was scored for two clarinets, two bugles, a small trumpet and saxophone.
