Nuclear bombs were used against human kind in Japan's Hiroshima and Nagasaki cities. It killed humans of every age, horses, dogs, cats, rats and mice. It also killed insects as roaches, ants, fleas, ticks, flies and roaches.
A myth was spread that roaches don't die in a nuclear blast. That is not true.

While changing control rod motors one control rod was accidently pulled too far out of the reactor. The reactor instantly went critical, super heated the cooling water to steam, and the steam expolded. It was NOT a nuclear explosion. Three Naval personnel were killed. Two died of radiation before they could leave the building, the third was pinned to the roof by a control rod and apparently died immediately.
