Modern nuns generally do not follow the strict regime followed by their sisters in medieval times. The night offices (matins and lauds) are now said in the evening so that nuns may enjoy a full night's sleep.
In the Middle ages, the Rule of St Benedict specified eight services for nuns and monks, starting with Matins and Lauds which would often be said together at around 2 am. The community would then go back to bed until Prime at around 6 am (the first daylight service). Other services followed at roughly 3-hour intervals.
Between these services nuns would be occupied in private study or various types of work (bee-keeping, needlework, brewing, baking, gardening, cleaning, cooking and many other tasks); every part of every day and night was strictly allocated to a a specific occupation and there was no "free time".

A Book of hours was a book of prayers and services for the church offices (matins, lauds, etc).
Moslems attend a mosque, not a church. And they attend it on Fridays.

The monks at the Abbey of Solesmes typically sing Gregorian chants during daily prayer services, known as the Liturgy of the Hours. These services are held at various times throughout the day, including early morning (Matins), mid-morning (Lauds), midday (Sext), late afternoon (Vespers), and evening (Compline).

What kind of monks? Catholic monks can eat meat on most days; Buddhist monks can not.
Monks belonged to the Church, meaning that they could not be accused, tried or sentenced under civil law. They were subject only to Canon Law (Church Law), where the death sentence was not an option.Their status as clerics set monks, abbots, priors, bishops, archbishops, priests, deacons and archdeacons apart from all other elements of society - they did not fit into the feudal system but alongside it.
In medieval times, the common people only attended church on special holy days. The nobles and ruling classes tended to attend weekly.
Monks were around for every single year of the Medieval Age. There were also monks in late Roman times, and there are still monks in modern times. Monks have been around for a good long while, and not all of them were Medieval. * The Medieval Age lasted from the 5th Century to the 15th.
