It is a good idea to check hooves every day as stones or other items can bruise the hoof.Always pick out before riding and on return from a ride.Mud and wet bedding can cause thrush [a infection] in the frogs and hoof if you don't clean the hooves out.

You should clean the hooves at least once per day. Most owners also pick out the feet after a ride to ensure the horse hasn't picked up any stones.

How many hooves did the horse have?

Four legs. Horses have always had four legs.

Do i need to cut my horses toenails?

Horses don't have toenails, they have hooves. And yes, usually they need to be trimmed regularly. Many horses are shod, and will need new shoes something like every 6 weeks. Even an unshod horse will need its hooves trimmed, unless it somehow manages to get enough natural wear from moving around in its paddock to keep the hooves at a suitable length, which would be quite rare.

How often do horses hooves need to be trimmed?

Pick your horses hooves out daily, or whenever you are up at the boarding place. As stones can get caught in the hoof, causing a stone bruise potentially. Also in the muddy seasons going too long without picking the hooves clean can develop thrush.

Why do wild horses not need shoes?

I believe it would be great to be able to run across open prairie and have no fence to stop you. I also think the life of a wild horse can be very hard, like avoiding predators and round ups, but nice to be in the company of others the whole time. no one really knows for sure.

Why do horses need hoves?

Like claws, hooves are also made of keratin and are found on mammals such as pigs, deer, antelope, and horses. Hooves are usually found on herbivores or prey animals. They serve a very special purpose for most members of this group by offering protection from the impact of their feet striking the ground when running. Hoofed animals rely on being able to flee rapidly to avoid predators. Because more force is put on front hooves when the animal runs, they are often larger and can withstand greater force than the back hooves. Many mammals have hooves that are cloven with two parts. This structure allows the animal to walk easily in all sorts of habitats, from hard ground to soft, sandy soil . Hooves are also used for grooming, to dig for food, and for defense.

Why do horses and other animals have hooves?

Because, throughout evolution horses developed hooves as other animals developed other methods of protection on their feet such as toenails on humans. It was many random nucleotide mutations that eventually overtime lead to the desireable trait of hooves.

The can not. AS many may know, this is a trick question because I'm sure that physically they can but literally since there is a metal hoof covering it then they can't see there own foot.

What do wild western horses get used for?

Wild horses can be used for many disciplines when trained to do so. I know many people who prefer to use mustangs for trail riding because they have very sturdy and hard hooves. But mustangs can be used for most all disciplines regular horses do. An example is mustangs would probably make a good endurance horse because of their hard hooves and stamina.

You own horses and some of your pastures have rolling hills you need to prevent as much erosion as possible but without to many rocks that your horses could get lodged in their hooves What would you u?

Fence off areas of the pasture with temporary electric fencing that the horses should be grazing on. Allowing only a portion of the pasture for the horses to graze will allow for less risk of the horses overgrazing the pasture, which they tend to do.
