Once. He was born in Bethlehem, lived out his life for 33 years or so, and died on a cross in Jerusalem. However, after his death, he was seen by literally hundreds of people as a new, glorious resurrected Jesus, who continued to appear to his followers - and others - until his ascension into heaven a few weeks later. He also appeared to St Paul later as a blinding flash of light. Jesus promised that he would one day return to judge the earth. Sects like the Mormons would have you believe that Jesus also appeared in the USA because 'the Book of Mormon says so..'. This is pure fiction and very heretical, as Jesus made it quite clear that he would leave the disciples to return to the Father, only returning again to judge the earth at the end of time.

Twice. He already came back the first time to pay for our sins by being the perfect sacrifice. And he will come back again during the times of revelation to call the saved back home, this is when the rapture happens. He appears in the clouds and blows a Trumpet basically. And then after another 7 years, he has an epic battle with satan, and then establishes a new heaven on earth for the saved to live on for 1000 years and so on and so forth~ If that helped any.. Basically, the first time he comes back, already happened. and then after the second time, the earth is remade and he "lives" on earth from that point forward.

Another Answer:

According to the Scripture, Christ will return at the blowing of the 7th trumpet during the 'tribulation' period (whole event takes 3 1/2 years). It will be known world-wide and will be only once. He will meet His Saints in the sky (heaven) and they will escort their King to the soon future home of the entire God Family. The Millennial rule begins.

ANSWER

To come back, someone has to first leave. Christ became man, was crucified, resurrected, and returned to heaven.

Christ returns to Earth twice.

  • The first time is the Rapture . This is when Christ returns and all christian and old-Testament "pre-christians" meet him in the air. He comes for His Church . He does not come for the world. HE DOES NOT TOUCH THE EARTH.
  • The second time is the Second Coming. This is when Christ returns at the end of the Tribulation and actually stands on the very Mount of Olives. He comes to the earth in Judgement. This time HE DOES TOUCH THE EARTH.

Do not confuse the two Returns : they are both separate events for separate groups with separate purposes . and separate results - they are not the same.

Jesus Christ came to earth 2000 years plus, born as a human being to Mary in Bethlehem, ministered on earth for about 33 years, went to the cross of Calvary to die and pay the price for our sins, He was resurrected three days later and after spending 40 days more on earth He ascended to heaven to be with the Father. He is going to return to earth some day soon to rule and reign.

Now having said that there are passages in the Old Testament, which are called a Christophany. The pre-incarnate appearance (s) of Christ. I do not know the number, but one good example is in the Book of Joshua 5:13-15.

Just as the Holy Spirit had a ministry on earth before He came to indwell believers, so Jesus was active before becoming the God/Man. I have no Idea how many times Jesus visited earth before the incarnation, but do know that His next return to earth is most important and is soon in coming.

I count three times. The first time was when He came 2000 years ago. The second time will be the rapture, and the third time will be to recover the tribulation saints. Am I missing anything?
