Most people say 6-8 weeks between stretches, but that's a very long time. I got pierced w/ a 10 needle and sized up to an 8 the next day. A week later, sized up to a 4 from the 8, 3 weeks later went to a 2, the next day, went to a 0, then just sized up 2 weeks later to a 00. It's been 6 weeks 6 days and I've sized up 6 times with no worries, and the only one that hurt was the 8 to the 4. It's all really how long it takes your ears to heal. My ears healed ridiculously fast. Just make sure once you pass 4 to use a taper. When I stretched my 8's to 4's, I just shoved the plugs in and that was significantly more painful than anything else I've done with my ears. And when removing tapers and replacing them with plugs, it hurts more than the actual stretching with the taper, so keep that in mind when you're sizing up. If it hurts a lot when you put the taper in, leave it in for 2 days before putting your plugs in.

a blowout is when the skin has been pushed from the inside of your ear. if you have a little bit of skin on the back of your ear around the stretching you should downsize and wait until it has healed. also your ears should not bleed while stretching :)

Try buying wooden earrings, or go to a higher gauge. Yes I'm referring to stretching. Try stretching your ears to a 14 or a 12 gauge, and wear wooden earrings. It's better for your ears, natural, and much more difficult for them to heal. You could keep them in for longer and not change them as much.

Stretching any piercing takes time (to do it correctly). It really depends on your anatomy. I would suggest waiting at least 3 to 4 weeks between stretches or until they aren't sore from the previous stretch. I would also suggest only stretching about 1 or 2 mm each time. Stretching faster than that can result in nasty blowouts. Listen to your body. If it hurts, downsize and take care of it.
