You stated US Army- in what might be called the most hazardous duty end of this service available to women- the Women"s Army-AF Service Pilots- or WASPS, there was a total of 38 fatal accidents. One case- the body was never recovered and this Lady was delivering an armed A-36 assault plane. Obviously there were accidents on hospital ships ( Navy) and other transit crash events. Women weren"t allowed to participate in actual live-fire combat.
Since women have been involved in military service, it is difficult to provide an exact number of female military deaths. However, it is estimated that tens of thousands of women have died in various armed conflicts throughout history, including World War II, the Vietnam War, and more recent conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
During the Korean War there were seventeen military nurses who died during the conflict mostly from airplane crashes .

Women in the Military is a fine example of why the sexism in the world is pointless. I've personally met many female soldiers. Females in the Army/Marines/Navy/Air Force is a great thing, for there are actually many jobs women can do better than males. On a side note: When the war in Afghanistan started women pilots bombed many strategic targets. Arabic people treat women like property, and our women bombed them. Irony? I think so.
They wanted to be known as more than a housewife there are many first women serving their country.
Women were needed because so many men were in the military.
