In general, an individual who is pursing a career as a Kindergarten Teacher will enroll in an Early Childhood Education program of study. This will cover Pre-K through fourth grade. To be teacher certified it takes four years of full-time study, if the program is followed as prescribed by the college or university. With college tuition constantly on the rise, individuals are now shopping for colleges that will not place an unreasonable financial burden on them. One good way to hold down the expense of a college education is by starting at a home county community college. Once the Associates Degree is completed, the student then transfers to a four year college or university to finish the last two years of study. Remember that public or state colleges will be less expensive than private institutions. It would be a good idea to speak with an Enrollment Specialist (formerly called Admissions Counselor) or a Transfer Counselor at the home county community college for more detailed information. In addition, do not assume that you do not qualify for Financial Aid. Apply for it. If you do not qualify, you would then be eligible to apply for a student loan if necessary. Also, stop by the Financial Aid Office and fill out an application for a scholarship. Once again, do not assume you will not qualify. There are many types of scholarships available where the money is there, but individuals do not seek it out. Also remember that the college will always run out of money before it runs out of eligible candidates. So, apply early and be careful of the dead-lines for applying. Just indicate on the application, that you are applying for any scholarship you may be eligible for. The Financial Aid support staff will attempt to marry up your information with what may be available to you.
