There are generally two solar eclipses each year. Sometimes there are three, and rarely four; very rarely there will be only one or none. Of these, about half are partial or annular eclipses, so on average, there is one total solar eclipse about every other year. There were total eclipses in 2009 and 2010, but there will not be one in 2011.

A solar eclipse is visible across a very narrow stripe across the Earth. Since the Earth is three-quarters water, and since the path of totality is quite narrow, many years can pass until an eclipse is visible at any particular point. For example, there has not been a total solar eclipse visible in the City of Los Angeles since the city was founded in the late 1700s!

The NASA Eclipse Web Page has a catalog of all eclipses between 2000 BCE and 3000 AD, and there is an eclipse calculator available for you to calculate when an eclipse will happen in any particular location.

A total solar eclipse is visible for only a very brief time. Depending on the exact alignment of the Sun, Earth and Moon, the period of totality may last only a few seconds, and is never more than eight minutes.

Do solar eclipses happen every time the moon travels around the earth?

No, solar eclipses can be years apart.

How many years in between each eclipse?

There are generally two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses each year. Because solar eclipses cover a very narrow stripe across the Earth, solar eclipses SEEM TO BE rare - in one particular location. There can be several CENTURIES between total solar eclipses in the same spot. On the other hand, it can be just a few years. There's a town in Illinois that will have two total solar eclipses only 8 years apart, in 2017 and 2024.

How often are solar eclipse?

There are generally two solar eclipses per year, 6 months apart. However, one spot on the Earth will see eclipses only about every 60 years.

How many months between each lunar eclipse?

Lunar eclipses are usually either one month apart or five months apart.

How often does a ''Lunar Eclipse'' happen?

During the 100 years of the 20th Century, there were 228 solar eclipses and 229 lunar ones. So over the long term, you can figure on equal numbers, at the rate of around 7 of each every 3 years.

When was the first eclipse happen and in which country?

Pressumably, eclipses have been happening for millions of years.Pressumably, eclipses have been happening for millions of years.Pressumably, eclipses have been happening for millions of years.Pressumably, eclipses have been happening for millions of years.

Why is the eclipse getting more frequent?

Eclipses are not getting more - or less - frequent. Eclipses - of the sun or the moon - happen at regular intervals, and are easily predictable many years in advance.

How many eclipses are there in a calendar year?

The answer very much depends on the year. One calendar year has a minimum of four eclipses, which are two solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses. A year can have as many as seven eclipses. So each year is different.

How many eclipses in 2010?

On average, we can expect two lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses in any year. 2010 will have four eclipses, right on the average.

How many solar eclipses are there in 2 years?

In 2013 and 2014 there will be a total of four solar eclipses. When the moon casts a shadow over the Earth, and the moon is between the sun and Earth, there is a solar eclipse.

How many times during a year could there be a solar or lunar eclipse?

During the 100 years of the 20th Century (1901 - 2000), there were 228 solar eclipses and 13 times lunar eclipses.

How many lunar eclipses are there yearly?

none to 3 lunar eclipses a year
