To clarify: what is known to Christianity as the 'Old Testament' is also known as the Tanakh to the Jews, and was a complete 'bible' thousands of years before Jesus was born. So to some Jews there is a big time gap between the Tanakh and the 'New Testament'.

ANSWER:The last book of the Old Testament is Malachi, and was written about 424BC (Dr John MacArthur "The MacArthur Study Bible") and it is generally taken that Christ was born about 4BC. As John the Baptist was born 6 months earlier this would put John's miraculous conception to his mother Elizabeth about 6BC, making 418 years between the end of Malachi and the start of events recorded in the New Testament.

The New Testament was written during the first century and probably the first one or two decades of the second century CE.
