Where was the famous Pennsylvania Civil War battle fought?

Gettysburg was the site of the most famous battle of the US Civil War. General Lee of the Confederacy wanted Northerners to know that the Civil War was not only going to be fought onSouthern soil. On June 16, 1863,Lee led the Army of Northern Virginia across the Potomac River with the intent of reaching Harrisburg, Pa. the capital of Pennsylvania. It was a pure accident that the Union and Confederate armies would fight at Gettysburg. Lee had forced Union general Meade to Gettysburg. On July2, 1863 the battle was engaged. Each side had heavy losses however in the end the Union forces prevailed and Lee was forced to retreat back to Virginia.

It was a battle that occured in the South (the only northern battle was in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania), and the Northy was trying to weaken the south. Most thought that the war was going ot take less than a year, and the North was trying ot meet that goal while trying ot preserve the Unioin as a whole.

What is an attraction for Pennsylvania?

Well, I lived in Pennsylvania and absolutely hated it, but before we left we went to Gettysburg. I'm a girl, so I'm not the first person to jump at the chance to go to a battle field, but I really enjoyed it. You can get a personal tour guide who is in your car and shows you all of the key points. This is definitely worth it. They also have a cyclorama which is really cool. I definitely recommend going to Gettysburg!
