It was beneficial because the island kept them safe from there enemies that casted them to the area in the first place. Also they had the ability to make fertile land by digging up the mud from the lake floor. It was a hindrance because they had issues getting fresh water, but this changed when their empire grew because they built a form of aqueduct that reached the city. Historically the land that the Aztecs were forced to live on was highly undesirable and considered to be slum like by their neighbors that forced the Aztec populace to live there. by albaraa alamrani
