It depends largely on what kind you want and where you buy them (and whether or not you have eye insurance)!

There are currently 4 types: daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly. The length depends on how long you can wear them for, so daily is a once use, take out and throw away kind of thing. Weekly can be used for 7 days and bi-weekly for 14, but must be taken out each night. The monthly contacts are actually made to let more oxygen to your eyes and you can safely sleep in them and essentially wear them for 30 days without taking them out, although your typical optometrist will advise against it regardless of what the packaging says. Another thing to note if you wear glasses as well, the time limit for wearing your contacts doesn't change when they're in a case of solution and not in your eyes. So if you have weekly, and you wear your contacts for 2 days and then leave them in the case for 6 days and want to put them back in, they won't work as nicely anymore, you'll have to open new ones. (I found this frustrating when I would get sick, have to take my contacts out because your eyes swell up when you're sick, and then have to open new ones after only wearing the others for 1 or 2 days!)

If you buy daily contacts, and you plan to exclusively wear contacts and not glasses, you're going to need 365 x2 of them = most expensive! You can kind of get the picture with the other wear lengths for contacts, where the monthly ones are the cheapest, because you're essentially buying less of the product (12 contacts per eye = 24, for an entire year).

Last year I used bi-weekly, the brand I used was horrible, prior to that I had used monthly for the better part of 8 years and am back on those because my eyes can "breath" in those (I have Allergies, when my eyes would get dry in the other ones, I couldn't see clearly -- it got foggy, in these, I can still see fine). Last year I got 6 months worth of contacts without eye insurance for $190 through the optometrist. This year with my monthly contacts, I requested to get my prescription from the eye doctor and use it elsewhere (you can do this) and go online to buy my contacts. After online coupon codes, free shipping, and a $25 mail in rebate, I got a year supply for $120! (The optometrist quoted me for $210!)

So if you're on a tight budget, don't have insurance, or have really dry eyes, I'd recommend going for AirOptix Night & Day contacts and purchasing them online, NOT from an optometrist!
