Some people refer to alcohol poisoning as drinking too many Alcoholic Beverages orver a short period of time or binge drinking, but since the alcohol in alcoholic beverages is not a poison to the human body I would consider alcohol poisoning occurring by drinking household products that contain ethyl alcohol (ethanol), or by ingesting isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol) or methyl alcohol (methanol; sometimes commonly referred to as wood alcohol).

A person with alcohol poisoning needs immediate medical attention and should not be left alone. If you suspect someone has alcohol poisoning, call your local poison control center or emergency number, usually 911.

As far as the effects of drinking alcoholic beverages is concerned it's up to the genetic endowment of the individual drinking, their exposure or tolerance to alcohol, and wheather or not that person is also taking a stimulant drug such as amphetamines generally prescribed for ADD or cocaine generally done at parties. or a combination of both...with those things considered ...ONE DRINK will generally have the user a bit more relaxed and possible loosened up a little....if he is ave. height and 160lbs... one drink = .02 blood alcohol level... the actual measurement is grams/100ml i.e. 0.02g%=200mg% An hour later all traces of alcohol will be gone.

TWO AND ONE-HALF DRINKS...with 2.5 dinks in an hour's time, your party-goer will have a .05-blood alcohol level. He's high. He may be loud, boisterous, making passed because the "newer" parts of the brain, those controlling judgment, have been affected. He is Disinhibited. saying and doing things he might usually censor...2.5 hours will be requred to completely metabolize the alcohol.

FIVE DRINKS ...with five drinks in an hour there is no question you have a drunk on your hands, and the law would agree. A blood alcohol level of .10 is sufficient ot issue a DWI in any state. in addition the the centers of the brain for judgemnt the centers for controlling muscle coordination are depressed. Stagger to the walk and slur to the speech. The drinker, now with altered perception and judgment will claim that he has never functioned better. All traces of alcohol will be gone in five hours.

TEN DRINKS... blood alcohol content is .20 more than judgment perceptual and motor functions are affected...emotions are probably very erratic-rapidly changing from laughter to tears to rage. Even if your guest could remember he had a coat-which he may not because of memory impairment-he'd never be able to put it on...10 hours for metabolization of alcohol...six hours later he will still be legally drunk.

SIXTEEN DRINKS 2SIX-PACKS + 4 BEERS. THE DRINKER IS stuporous. though not passed out sensory perception is almost nil. With the liver handling roughly one ounce of alcohol per hour it will be 16 hours...well into tomorrow before all the alcohol is gone.

TWENTY DRINKS-not quite a fifth of whiskey...at this point( within one hour) the person is in a coma and dangerously close to death. The vital brain centers that send out instructions ot the heart and breathting appartus are partially anesthetized. At a blood alcohol level of .40 to .50 a person is in a coma; at .60-.70 death occurs.
