Any anti-freeze in oil will hurt engine. There is an extremely thin line between long term and immidiate damage. Fix problem A.S.A.P.!!!
Probably red ELC. Need to know what engine you have to give a definitive answer.
There are so many vehicles that have versions of the 6.0 in them as to make this answer completely unanswerable.
The engine cooling system capacity , including the reservoir is 12.8 quarts on a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer So , a 50 / 50 mix of antifreeze and preferably distilled water ( that's the way it came from the factory ) would take * ( 6.4 quarts of antifreeze ) *
The smell of antifreeze is very strong and distinct, it does not take much of a leak to smell it. The radiator could still be full and have a small leak. I would check for antifreeze dripping onto the exhaust or on the engine block because when it is hot the smell is much more noticeable from the fumes.
2 gallons
According to the 1998 Ford Ranger Owner Guide : The 2.5 liter four cylinder engine ( with air conditioning ) has an engine coolant system capacity of 7.2 U.S. quarts So a 50 / 50 mix of antifreeze and preferably distilled water would take : ( 3.6 quarts of antifreeze ) * Ford shows not to exceed 60 % antifreeze
Antifreeze can kill animals only by consumption, if it is a larger animal it will take allot for it to die. if it is smaller it wont take that much
it would take about 1 tablespoon
yes, to a degree. all forms of antifreeze that are for automotive use should be compatible tho. match the color you put in to the color you take out, or is in there already (green = plain Jane antifreeze, other colors = high life antifreeze)
I couldn't find the answer for the 1997 but the ( 1999 ) Ford F-350 with a 7.3 liter diesel has an engine cooling system capacity of ( 32.75 quarts / 31.0 liters ) That includes the heater / engine coolant reservoir So , a 50 / 50 mix of antifreeze and preferably distilled water would take slightly over ( 16 quarts / 4 gallons of antifreeze )
