I've decided not to erase the previous response

made by who knows, I think it relates perfectly

to the responses that were given after the great

minds of the past told the masses the earth was

in fact round not flat. Well, we all know what

happened to those heretics now don't we. Oh

the trouble with religion, let me count the ways.

I bet if we took a survey we would find that 90%+

of people who are highly religious don't believe we

have any environmental problems.

To the answer... sorry:

Facts first:

  • Carbon Monoxide can kill you.
  • EPA residential standard - not to exceed 9 ppm (parts per million) in 8 hours.
  • EPA residential standard - not to exceed 35 ppm in 1 hour.
  • 0.5 to 5 ppm Average level in homes
  • 0.1 ppm Natural atmosphere level

According to the EPA, the average car driving the average mileage

per year produces 575 pounds of carbon monoxide and 11,450

pounds of carbon dioxide.

Thus, 575 divided by 365 = 1.58 pounds of carbon monoxide

per day.

*I'll break down my research.

It takes the fresh air equivalent of two American homes to dilute

the carbon monoxide produced by just ONE SINGLE GALLON OF

GASOLINE to not make you sick.

This should then tell us something about how devastating the

85 million barrels of oil burned everyday in the worldis. 365

times 85 and we get 31 billion barrels of oil consumed every

year in the world. There are 31 gallons in a barrel so 31 times

31 billion is 961 billion gallons of oil burned every year in the

world.

30 million metric tons of carbon dioxide is documented as the

worlds emissions. So if we take our 1 part per 20 example earlier

(11,450/575) we get a yearly world carbon monoxide emission of

1.5 million metric tons. Or 1.5 million times 2,200 = 3,300,000,000

(3.3 billion) pounds of carbon monoxide put into the atmosphere

every year by humans.

The earths average carbon monoxide is 0.1 ppm. We just need to

figure out how 1.5 million annual tons of carbon monoxide contributes

to the 0.1 ppm the earth averages naturally.

50% of the carbon monoxide in the atmosphere is created by nature

and 50% by man. Thus, doesn't that mean every year we are

doubling the carbon monoxide levels? If the earth naturally sits at

0.1 ppm then we are contributing 0.05 every year. Aren't we? Thus

in 10 years it will be 0.05x10 = .5 plus the earths equilibrium = 0.6 ppm

Remember, it takes 10ppm to make the entire earth a breathing

nightmare. So, 10ppm divided by 0.05 = 200 years until we

have completely screwed everyone on the planet out of breathable air.

Coal burning is a major contributor towards carbon monoxide and

ironically there are 181 years left of coal reserves on this planet.

Weird coincidence.

Here is an exert from a related article about the earths oxygen levels:

"Of course, not all life on Earth would completely die off.

It's postulated that certain mosses, hardy slime molds,

resilient bacteria and viruses - as well as the more robust

sea slugs - probably could weather the severe oxygen

deprivation. They will make it through the tens of thousands

of years required for the oxygen levels to slowly replenish

after the planetary mass extinction."

Soda does not have any amounts of carbon monoxide. It has carbon dioxide dissolved in it, but no carbon monoxide.

What plastic can give off carbon monoxide when burned?

All plastics give of carbon monoxide when burned, the amount of carbon monoxide depends on what type of plastic is being burned, so don't burn plastic cause too much carbon monoxide is bad for all life on earth and the ozone! :)

Do all fires produce carbon monoxide?

It depends on how much oxygen there is in the area of where is the fire, If the fire has enough or too much oxygen, there is no carbon monoxide, if there is any lack of oxygen, carbon monoxide is produced.

How does a person get to much carbon monoxide while in the hospital?

What is the monoxide short form?

Carbon Monoxide is represented as CO as an abbreviation. Carbon monoxide can be hazardous to a person's health if too much is breathed in, and there are usually monoxide detectors in buildings to alert when there is an abundance of CO.

How quickly does carbon monoxide?

Carbon monoxide kills within a few seconds, but it also depends on how much of the area has filled up with the gases and how quickly a person would pass out due to the carbon monoxide gas.

The effects that carbon monoxide has on the body when smoked?

What effect does carbon monoxide have on the body when smoked? - Firstly carbon monoxide (CO) is an odorless colorless gas that is not combustible and therefore cannot be smoked. - Carbon Monoxide is a byproduct of combustion, and is a component of smoke, it is also prevalent in automobile and electric generator exhaust. - By Mayo Clinic staff Carbon monoxide poisoning is an illness caused by exposure to too much carbon monoxide --- a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas. Too much carbon monoxide in the air you breathe can greatly diminish your ability to absorb oxygen, leading to serious tissue damage. Carbon monoxide poisoning can lead to death. Carbon monoxide is produced by appliances and other devices that generate combustion fumes, such as those that burn gas or other petroleum products, wood and other fuels. The danger occurs when too much carbon monoxide accumulates in a contained, poorly ventilated space. Although the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning can be subtle, the condition is a life-threatening medical emergency. Get immediate care for anyone who may have carbon monoxide poisoning

What gases are in car exhaust fumes?

Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide are contained in car exhaust fumes. Carbon Monoxide is a toxic gas that if too much is breathed in, you die.
