∙ 14y agoThe chemical in chocolate that is toxic to dogs is theobromine. The amount of theobromine varies with the type of chocolate.
On average,
Milk chocolate contains 44 mg of theobromine per oz.
Semisweet chocolate contains 150mg/oz.
Baker's chocolate 390mg/oz.
Using a dose of 100 mg/kg as the toxic dose it comes out roughly as:
1 ounce per 1 pound of body weight for Milk chocolate
1 ounce per 3 pounds of body weight for Semisweet chocolate
1 ounce per 9 pounds of body weight for Baker's chocolate.
Using the above figures, we get 70 ounces of Milk Chocolate, 23 ounces of semisweet chocolate, and 7.7 ounces of baker's chocolate.

∙ 11y agoNone - dogs are very sensitive to some of the chemicals in chocolate (much more so than humans) and you can cause your dog to drop into a coma from chocolate, or even kill him.
