Hurricane Ophelia formed September 6, 2005, in the mid-morning hours of Tuesday, and spun off the Carolinas for 8 days, however the hurricane itself lasted 11 days all together. Ophelia led to plenty of battering along the coast, stirring up waves, rip currents, and colossal sea swells. Ophelia had peak winds up 85 miles per hour, and even higher gusts of wind. All these things added together caused coastal flooding and beach erosion. She traveled this way and that way, going in in every direction possible. Ophelia contributed as a tropical depression with winds up to 39 miles per hour, a tropical storm with winds from 39 to 73 miles per hour, a 1-2 category hurricane with winds from 74 to 110 miles per hour, and a 3-5 category hurricane with winds from 111 to 155 miles per hour. She developed from a large wave in the Bahamas, with the eye remaining just off the coast. Ophelia was the 15th named tropical cyclone. She was the 8th hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, while also being the most unpredictable storm of 2005. Thankfully though nobody was reported injured or killed.
