During the California Gold Rush (1848-1855), food prices skyrocketed due to high demand and limited supply. Basic staples that were once inexpensive, such as flour, could cost as much as $1 per pound, while a simple meal could range from $5 to $10, equivalent to hundreds of dollars today. This inflation was driven by the influx of miners and the challenges of transporting goods to remote mining camps. Consequently, many prospectors faced not only the struggle to strike gold but also the high cost of basic sustenance.

Probably food would cost a few pennies which were silver coins. At that cost, gold would be too much to buy some food. If you had a few gold, you were most likly rich and could have a feast if you wanted. So I would say 2 or 3 pennies for some meat. And 1 or 2 for a loaf of bread.
it would cost around 1.26 million dollars for that much gold
Because there was gold in California, people rushed there to get as much gold as possible. The more gold there is, the more people there is to make California a state.
People migrated west to California in the early 1800s because there was tons of gold in California so pretty much it was mainly the miners who migrated (moved) west to get as much gold as they can. I know this because we very recently learned about in history class at school.
