That would depend on many factors: the empty weight of a WWI Spad S XIII weighed about 1,245 pounds while a Boeing 747-100 had an empty weight of 358,000 pounds and B-1B has a maximum takeoff weight of 477,000 pounds. An ultralight is capable of flight, but can't be compared to some of the giant transports of 2008.
Airplanes and elevators are designed for people that weight an average of 150 lbs. But recently this number has been increased to 155.
Spaceships are MUCH faster than airplanes.
Most people are surprised how much airplanes weigh, and engines too. Reciprocating engines typically weigh 1 pound per HP. Big jet engines weigh 0.2 pounds per HP or so and they typically weigh from one ton to several tons. Here a simulator for designing your own engine: http://www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/K-12/airplane/ngnsim.htm
There is not much point in having airplanes unless they 'take off' .
Airplanes, cars, bulldozers, many kinds of machines.
