It depends on a lot of factors. The US nationwide average starting salary is about $36,000 per year, but this varies pretty considerably from Montana's $27,274 to Washington DC's $51,539. Of course, you probably run a significantly higher risk of being killed in a DC school than you do in one in Montana, so there's that (also, it's more expensive to live there).
