Here in Seattle, Washington state, a teacher with a bachelor's degree will start out at about $32,000/year. A PhD will net you almost $39,000/year. After 15 years of seniority, you can be looking at somewhere between $64,000-$75,000, plus a benefits package that can add up to $13,000/year to the base.

Put plain and simply, you have to love to teach. Going into the private sector as a software engineer will be more lucrative almost from day one.
