Why do you think gasoline needs continued to increase during World War 2?

Both military aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, photo reconnaissance) and land vehicles (e.g. tanks, antitank guns, jeeps) used gasoline and in massive quantities. Also naval landing craft used gasoline. Tanks especially got very low gas mileage (usually measured in gallons per mile, not miles per gallon) because of the weight of their armor. There was still civilian demand for gasoline, but this was severely limited by tight rationing regulations so that the first priority military demand could be met.

Can you determine the molecular formula of a substance from its percent composition?

Not completely. The empirical formula of a substance can be determined from its percent composition, but a determination of molecular weight is needed to decide which multiple of the empirical formula represents the molecular formula.

Kamikaze Pearl Harbor?

The Kamikaze did not exist in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. They were created as a desperation move near the end of World War 2. They came into being during the battle of Okinawa. The airfields of Okinawa placed the bombers of the United States extremely close to Japan. The Japanese threw everything they had left into the battle. They were running out of gasoline for their airplanes and put enough gasoline into their planes to go one way. The weight that would be used for gasoline to return to base was given over to bombs. Unlike the garbage airplanes the United States had at the beginning of World War 2, the United States now had the Mustang fighter. The Japanese had not improved the Zero. Some Kamikaze got through, most were shot down. From Okinawa, Mustangs could accompany Bombers the length of Japan. The Zeros were useless.
