A turtle that has a red line on its neck is probably a painted turtle. Painted turtles are the most common turtle in North America.
Red-eared sliders. They are classified as semi-aquatic turtles- meaning they spend most of their time in the water but still require land.
Actually, nobody really knows which one is better:a red eared or a snake neck turtle. But they do have opinions. Somebody can say that a red eared turtle is better than a snake neck turtle and somebody else might say tha a snake neck turtle is better than a red eeared turtle. We have different thoughts and opinions. I hope this helped. If you need any more advice on turtles, feel free to email me and I will send you one back quickly. My email is: kate216@hanmail.net
The red eared slider have yellow stripes - see related link to Wikipedia for more info Also, yellow bellied sliders, chicken turtle, map turtle, some musk and mud turtles, painted turtles all have some degree of yellow stripes on shell or head and neck area. Also, the box turtle species, mainly terrestrial, have yellow markings as well.
Most turtles will eat fish that they are housed with, unless the fish are much much larger than the turtle.

The cost of a baby turtle will definitely vary over a wide price range depending on the type of turtle, and where you buy it. The most common turtles bought in Australia are red-eared sliders and freshwater short-necked turtles, and these can vary anywhere in between $20-$80, (and sometimes over and below!) It is very hard to estimate how much a baby turtle would cost because i do not know which breed you were looking at. I bought a freshwater short-neck baby turtle last week for $75 in South Australia. This price did not include the tank, basking rock, water heater, turtle food, health block, or any other accessories, and so all together (not including the tank, but including the turtle), I have spent roughly $270! (wow...lucky Tilly!) If you told me specifically which breed you were thinking of, i could probably give you a more detailed estimated price, but otherwise the price range for a turtle can vary (on average) $20-$80.
