This varies widely depending upon the specific clinic - there are some that turn no profit for their owner while other clinics net over a half million dollars a month. The owner's share of the profits will depend upon the clinic's profits and the contract negotiated with the rest of the staff at the clinic.

∙ 8y agoIn today's world (2015) the veterinary profession has become very expensive to enter into.
The cost of the building will depend on geographic location, but in general (in an urban area in the midwest for example) to build out a leased space you are looking at 50-75K. Equipment will be another 50-75K. Rent on the lease will be another 30K per year. You will need working capital to complete purchase orders of drugs and materials, pay staff (at least 1 technician and 1 recep), insurance, licensing, utilities, fixed costs like practice management software, referred labwork, etc - all while you are making no money because you have no customers yet - that's probably another 75K. You also have to pay yourself as the DVM.
The purchase price plus the first year of business will cost you easily 350-450K simply because you have to borrow enough money to pay for your first year of business where you will be trying to get enough clients to break even on cash flow. This will be even more expensive if you intend to buy the land or construct a building from scratch.
This is happening less now than with previous generations of vets because vet school has become so expensive and new vets are saddled with huge debt. It can be done, though. There are banks with special divisions for practice acquisition and start ups.
