I was having some problems with mine and asked my doctor about taking it out. Without insurance they said something like $150, but I was already there seeing the doctor, so I'm not sure if that included the fee they charge you just to be there... So it might be the $150 plus whatever base charge.

I just got my IUD removed and got the bill now. My NY Gynae charged $345 for the removal, even though I was already there to get a routine examination, and it took her about 30 secs to take it out. So no big breaks there. Although I have insurance, my plan doesn't cover it, and I have to pay the full amount.

I'm just curious as to how much the removal if the IUD cost. I've had mine for nearly three years now and my husband and I are ready to have another baby. Besides I dont' want to wait too long and have an age gap between my son and the other baby. I just think that a five year period is too long to wait. Sign, Curious

I have about $700.00 + in mine, although it would probably range with dr offices. The Mirena company has a set price for their product. My insurance didn't cover this only oral, injectable, and the patch.

It varies by type of IUD, and if you have insurance, what type and if it's covered by that. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield, and it is covered through that, but I'd call yours to make sure. The true cost of my Mirena IUD was around $1100, but the cost to me was about $25. That's because 1) it was covered in my insurance, and 2) my doctor did it during a regular check-up visit.

Another thing to consider is the cost of an IUD versus the cost of the Pill over the course of the 5 or 10 years you have it. I was paying around $25/mon for the Pill, which works out to 300/yr or 1500 over 5 years. So even if I didn't have insurance, the cost of the Mirena would still have been less than the cost of my Pill. Also, IUDs are generally more effective than the Pill because they're considered "idiot proof" - you can't "forget" to take something that's inside you. That was really important to me, but you could be much better than I was at remembering your Pill.
The sticker price for the Paragard IUD is around $800/900. but with insurance, you may just need to pay a normal copay. Family planning centers provide IUDs on a sliding scale fee if they participate with Title X.
About $400
At our local sliding-scale family planning office, the full price is about $1000, and the sliding scale fees (based on income per state regulation) range from $0 to $500. There are insurance programs in NY to help pay for contraception for women who qualify. Insurance may cover contraception if your employer has purchased that coverage in your plan.

I live in Canada and recently purchased a hormonal IUD called the Mirena for $357.76 at my local Dominion/Atlantic Super Store/Loblaws...etc... Shoppers Drug Mart would have been $406.00. Mirena's last for 5 years.

In Canada, non-hormonal IUDs, commonly called "Copper-Ts" such as the Nova-T and Paraguard will run you about $70.00 CAN. These will last for 10 years.

In the United States, a Mirena would be upwards of $800 and a Copper-T $200 bucks.

Before you decide to invest in one, consider your body.

They aren't cheap! If you've been around the block with every other form of BC and are on your last straw, you may want to invest. In any event, you will need an extensive conversation with your OBGYN before seriously considering filling a prescription.

Our local health department does not insert the IUD. Yours may. They may participate in the Title X program in which contraceptive costs are based on income. Talk to your local health department for information specific to your area.

How much does it cost to get the Mirena icu birth control inserted?

Well from the information that I have gathered from the net, it ranges from $300-$400. It saves you money if you are planning on using it long-term, but it's very costly for short term. When I had mine in 4 years ago it cost $300. A friend of mine was going to get it a few months ago but it would of cost her $700. So she didn't get it. I'd call your doctor to get an idea of what it might cost you.
