Brand new usually runs about $2500.00 If you purchase a replacement transmission and installation from a dealership the cost is also about $2,500 however you will also get a three year factory warranty (good at all dealerships) with the transmission as compared to a one year warranty on most repairs or rebuilds. Remember that transmission repairs can be costly in that if one part fails it often wears out the other parts which will also fail at some point meaning repeat trips for repairs. As the transmission fails, it usually generates metal pieces that get into other parts and wear them out sooner or later. Unless it is a minor situation, it is best to replace the transmission with a new/rebuilt unit with a good warranty. Make sure the rebuilt (new) transmission is ALL new parts inside. Transmissions from the Ford (or other) dealerships are rebuilt by authorized rebuilders and only the outside case is reused with the other parts being new inside.
