The above statement is true in a sense. None of Toyota's Hybrid Batteries have needed to be replaced from use. This is going back to 1998 in the US market.
There have been a few defective batteries replaced. However the most common replacment is due to rear impact. At this point your not just replacing the batteries, you are also replacing the housing unit which together with instalation is about $5,000.
The actual battery costs about $250 per unit to replace as there are 12 smaller batteries in the housing unit, not just one big one. If one should die you only need to replace that one.
