If you have it rebuilt from a transmission shop, could cost up to $ 2000, depends what has to be changed. If you find one from a wreck ( scrap yard ) its around $ 500.00 and should have a 30 day warrenty. But, just be careful with the ones from the scrap yard. The electronics on these trans. are very delicate. On the other hand, if you look around, you might find a used crown for a very low price in that year range. If you have to spend 2 grand just for the trans. might as well add a little and buy a good used car for just a little more. As of 2009, a Ford replacement transmission (all new internal parts) with a 3 year FORD warranty installed by a FORD dealership runs around $ 2,500.00. Due to the cost of the torque convertor, pump, labor, etc. it is a lot more cost effective to go the extra $700.00 and get a "new" transmission. If the car is in good shape, has lower miles, looks good, AC etc. all work, you know the car's history, and the engine is good, you would have replaced one of only two of the most important parts of the car and would not have to worry about it for at least three years. At least you would know that your car has a reliable transmission with a three year warranty should it fail.
