Finely ground coffee like what you buy in the supermarket has a density of 25 lb/ft^3 (http://www.ico.org/ecology.asp). Solving the following equation using your favorite internet calculator:

25 lb/ft^3 * 1 tablespoon in grams yields the answer of 5.9 grams in a tablespoon. Of course, the density may be considerably different depending on how dry and how finely ground your bag of coffee is.

Cant be 100% accurate but I think it is around 18grams, this is the standard dose of coffee that a machine is set to dispense and is also the average weight of a room service coffe stick / sachet
