AnswerThe ball dropped in Times Square to ring in the new year is called the "Waterford Crystal Ball".But The Ball dropped in Times Square to ring in the new year is called the "WaterfordCrystal Ball." Because the person who named the ball was insanely in love with Water and was working for Ford and he always wanted a Crystal Ball so that is how he got the name "Waterford Crystal Ball."
Waterford Crystal, an Irish crystal glass company, was commissioned to create a centrepiece for the countdown to 2000 in Times Square, New York. At 11:59pm the Millennium Ball was lowered to the countdown of the last remaining seconds of the year. A wooden and iron ball had been used in this ceremony prior to that, going back to 1907. For Times Square 2000, the New Year's Eve Ball was completely redesigned by Waterford Crystal. The Ball is a geodesic sphere, six feet in diameter, and weighs approximately 1,070 pounds. It is covered with a total of 504 Waterford Crystal triangles that vary in size and range in length from 4 inches to 5 inches per side. For the 2006 New Year's Eve celebrations, 72 new triangles were added featuring the 'Hope for Fellowship' design. The remaining 432 triangles feature designs from previous years including, Hope for Wisdom, Hope for Unity, Hope for Courage, Hope for Healing, Hope for Abundance and Star of Hope. All of the 696 lights and 90 rotating pyramid mirrors are computer controlled, enabling the Ball to produce a state-of-the-art light show. An estimated 2 billion TV Audience watch this event.
Yes it is. I used to have many of them and had no idea that they contained lead. I have recently stopped using all my crystal glasses by Waterford after having tested over 9 times the safe level for lead. They say the headaches will go away in a few months. Regards

In 2009, a larger version of the ball was introduced - it is 12 feet in diameter, containing 2,688 Waterford Crystal panels, and weighs 11,875 pounds. It is lit by 32,256 LED lamps. It was also designed to be weatherproof, is now displayed atop One Times Square year-round following the celebrations.
It is made of lightweight aluminum in a geodesic sphere shape with LED lights and crystal panels.
the square root of 1 million times the number of fibers = the Crystal structure.
The Alernating Current can be compared to a Direct Current using the AC's Root Mean Square value. That is about .707 times the Peak value, or the sin of 45 times the peak value or, 1 over the square root of two times the peak value. All three are the same essentially. This RMS value is like the average current or voltage that the load see's throughout one cycle.
The root-mean-square value is 0.707 times the peak value, for a sinusoidal voltage or current. Angle doesn't come into it.
The word "crystal" is in the King James Version of the Bible 5 times. It is in 5 verses.
