The convicts were not permitted much exercise time on the First Fleet. At most, when the weather was fine and the seas calm, the convicts were permitted to go above decks for up to an hour a day. However, most days, the ocean conditions were no safe enough for convicts to emerge from below decks.

∙ 12y agoLittle if records re to be believed. Most were chained together in the hold with barely enough space to sit down. Some were taken on deck to be sea water thrown over them to clean them as they arrived in port. Most sat in the own human waste for most of the journey. - Food was minimal
