As much as it will eat in roughly 2-3 minutes. If its finished eating and there is food left, scoop it out right away or else it can pollute your tank and result in a sick fish. Also ALWAYS use high quality food. Basically the more you pay the better and also keep a watch for trusted brand names. And occasionally treat your fish to some live food or frozen food like bloodworms... They love that! NEVER buy the 'saga' brand, it is made of nothing but impurities and can kill ur fish. And keep away from supermarket foods. All the money goes in to packaging. not the food. Its basically McDonald's for your fish. It's no good.

∙ 11y agoJust a PINCH is enough! Experts tend to do feeding two to three times a day, but if you just started out with a fish, one time should be enough. Once you get the hand of it, you can start feeding it how the experts do. TRY NOT TO OVERFEED YOUR FISH. Give it what it can eat in two minutes. Remove all excess food immediately so your fish will have less risk of disease.

∙ 13y agoI've heard about as much as they can eat in a few minutes, one to two times a day. I just got mine recently but I always see him swimming around grazing on algae. You also don't want to feed them more then they can eat in several minutes because it apparently encourages algae growth, and overfeeding them can cause problems with infections. (I don't really have time to find references, but Google it, there are a lot of blogs and articles).

∙ 11y agoIt depends on how many fish you have, if you have big, hungry fish i would feed them a finger pinch 2 or 3 times a day. If you have 1 or 2 small fish, (like me) just a small pinch 1 to 2 times a day

∙ 14y agoThere is no fixed amount. The common procedure is to place a small amount of goldfish food on the surface of their water. The fish will usually swim to and eat it. If the food is all eaten in less than 15 minutes then more can be added provided the fish eat it. All left over food should be removed from the fishes water to avoid poluting their environment.
