The best way to determine this (as closely as possible for your particular car) is to determine how many miles per gallon you are currently getting (city). The next time you fill your gas tank up, take note of the mileage of your car (you can also reset your trip odomoter to zero and let it count for you if your car is so equipped). Take note of your mileage when you are needing to refill (this is possibly the only time I would ever tell someone it is ok to let your car go below a quarter of a tank of gas) as close to empty as you are comfortable with. Take the difference between the two and divide by the size of your gas tank in your car. This will give you a rough estimate of your current MPG (city). Example: your tank is 16 gallons Starting mileage 46,000 miles Ending mileage 46,450 miles Take 46,450-46,000= 450 miles 450/16= 28 MPG (city) Your highway mileage should be slightly better than that, so add 5 MPG to that number (you will get better highway mileage because you are typically driving at a set speed consistantly, whereas in city driving, it is stop and go traffic and short trips which use more gas). It is roughly 1300 miles to Austin, Texas. Take your newly calculated highway MPG and divide by that number. You should now know how many gallons of gas it is going to take to get you there (estimated as closely as possible).
