On top of your engine you should see a cover with writing on it Triton 5.4L or Triton 4.6L, exc. depending on year. These covers are on the 1997 to 2009 ford trucks.
The 5.4 Triton was optional from 1997 to 2005, and standard from 2005 - 2014. It is not available in the 2015 model - only the 3.5L Ecoboost V6 is.
