How much horsepower does a 5.7 litre 350 cubic inch engine in a 1970 Monte Carlo have?
========================================================
My Chilton book shows :
350 cubic inch / 2 barrel carb / 250 horsepower
350 cubic inch / 4 barrel carb / 300 horsepower
horsepower is engine power. cubic centimetres is engine displacement. (sometimes proportional but) they are not directly related.
The cubic centimeter displacement of an engine does not determine its horsepower.
The Ford 460 cubic inch engine came with several horsepower settings. The typical 460 cubic inch Ford engine had a 330 horsepower rating.
You can't convert cubic inches to horsepower. more cubic inches usually mean more horsepower but it horsepower is determined by more than displacement (i.e turbo chargers and engine internals). You can find horsepower per cubic inch by dividing horsepower by cubic inch, but there is no way to use just cubic inches to determine horsepower
The volume of an engine does not necessarily determine its horsepower. That being said, the average 350 cubic centimeter engine is about 40 horsepower.
the emission-strangled 350 cubic inch V8 (5.7litre) produced a measly 195 horsepower... ugh. the 70's sucked. I owned a 1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that use a 2-barrel carbureted version of the same 350 V8 and it produced a gut-wrenching 145 horsepower... yeah. sick.
Cubic capacity and horsepower have no direct correlation.
Generally speaking the larger number of CC's you have in an engine , the greater the horsepower will be. Most North American Engines used to all be rated in Cubic inches now we rate them in Cubic Centimeters.
Cubic inches is only one variable in determining horsepower
The horsepower of a 1991 Chevrolet 454 cubic inch engine ranges between 240 horsepower and 350 horsepower the engine torque ranges between 700 pounds and 850 pounds.
The standard horsepower of associated with a 1995 351 cubic and Ford engine is 215. The engine horsepower was available in several different options.
The horsepower of a Ford 460 cubic inch engine is dependent upon several different factors. The standard horsepower rating was approximately 260.
