How much horspower does a spacecraft normally have?

Unfathomable horsepower. It needs such high horsepower to break away from the planet's atmosphere. I am hoping you aren't planning on building one yourself, but if you are you should watch "The Astronaut Farmer" to get an idea of the process.

The Space Shuttle has three engines that produce over 37 million horsepower! That is equal to the horsepower in approximately 400,000 cars, as a great many cars now have under 100HP for economical operation. ...also equal to the hp in 10 million lawnmowers, or 80,000 weed whackers!

Needless to say we could never drive a car with that much hp.
