It depends on who manufactured the weapon. more than likely it's worth $60 to $150. If it's made by Tula it's worth about $250
Mossberg made all their rifles in the USA.
your question is not specific enough, .30 cal carbine can be anything, as for 1944 can also mean a very wide range of firearms. for the two I know of: M1 Carbine, .30 carbine caliber, semiautomatic carbine Inland - around $800 Mosin Nagant M44 carbine, manuf 1944 in very good condition (like if you bought "new" from a store) around $90. there are hundreds of ".30 cal carbine" that are also manufactured in "1944".
Yes. Mosin Nagant makes a rifle that is around 40" long and has a folding bayonet. It is called a M44

My 1944 m44 is the same exact way as you describe it. I was thinking it was broken until I found your question. So, Im not sure if it they are broken the same way or they are suppose to be like this.
In the past couple of years, the Russian government was put thousands of 91/30 rifles and M38 and M44 carbines on the market- most in excellent condition. Due to the numbers, prices on these are very low- $100 or less. However, they can be great shooting rifles.
The BMW M44 engine uses a chain to drive the two overhead camshafts. You can see a good illustration at http://www.realoem.com.
